Exchange for Swinburne Students
SwinMates - Mentor Program
SwinMates is a mentor program for Swinburne university students at the Hawthorn, Prahran and Lilydale campuses. SwinMates matches Swinburne students with visiting Exchange/Study Abroad students so that they can meet, talk, go out and share experiences. As a mentor, students can also help to arrange trips or activities, give advice on getting around the city, suggest places to visit and advise of the best places to go for help at Swinburne.
As well as allowing students to benefit on a personal level, being a mentor in the SwinMates program helps to develop intercultural communication skills and provides international networking opportunities.
Every semester, the SwinMates program organises trips and events for Exchange and Study Abroad students and their mentors. Such activities include welcome events in the first week of the semester, a trip to see Australian Rules football (AFL) and a Melbourne City Secrets tour which explores the hidden alleyways of Melbourne. As a mentor, students can also organise events of their own, a good way to build upon and practise event management and organisational skills.
Students will be put in contact with each other a couple of weeks before the start of the semester so visiting exchange students can get advice about their arrival. Our incoming Exchange/Study Abroad students are automatically signed up for a SwinMate.
Participation in the program is rewarded with a certificate of participation at the end of the semester.
